Jun. 11th, 2007 02:10 amWell, Locarno has free wireless Internet! It's only in the hotel lobby, unfortunately, but it's definitely better than nothing.
I've been taking more pictures, but tragedy has struck -- I apparently managed (without noticing) to drop my camera (on the train to Locarno) and shatter the LCD screen. The camera is totally functioning other than that the display doesn't work. I have been taking pictures using the old-fashioned viewfinder, which is working reasonably, but I can't change any of the settings because I can't see them.
Currently (at this very instant, 2 AM local time) I'm roleplaying (much like D&D, Brian Ellis' system) using Skype. We have a 3-way call going, with me in Switzerland, Susan in New York, and everyone else around a laptop in Pittsburgh. It works remarkably well -- it seems to be only about 120 ms of latency from here to Pittsburgh. The call has dropped about 3 times in a few hours, I think because packets are getting lost somewhere over the Atlantic.
Time for me to go to bed, I think, since I have a train to catch tomorrow. I probably won't have Internet for a few days in Wengen, but we shall see; maybe I'll get lucky!
EDIT:
So we asked the hotel-guy in Wengen whether there was any Internet access, to which he said "No. Unless you have a laptop. With wireless. In which case you can get _something_ for free from the first floor lounge, but I don't know what it is." (Not an actual quote, but a pretty decent paraphrase.)
