The Burning of the Man approacheth!

X-posted: Facebook

Hey people I know: Are you going to Burning Man? With whom?

My camp (Camp Cydonia) is trying to add somewhere between 2 and 6 (or so) people, either by recruiting them or by merging with another small camp, to ease our logistical pain. So I'm trying to figure out who I know is going, and who they're camping with.

If you even _might possibly_ be interested in joining us, _or_ if you know someone who might, I'd love to hear from you.

OR, if your camp is already set, but you might be interested in sharing _logistics_ -- transportation of people or gear from SF, shade structures, provision of food, etc. -- please also let me know, since that might help us out too.

Thanks yinz! <3

I was under the impression that they couldn't increase the number of tickets sold (for zoning/legal/safety reasons), but I admit I don't know the whole story or anything.

The Bureau of Land Management won't increase the cap until the Burning Man org can demonstrate that they have the appropriate facilities to handle the increased number of people. They have a deal currently under which the numbers increase from 50k to 70k over the period from 2011 to 2016 or so I believe. I suspect they're going to try to get it boosted faster after this year's sellout.

... actually, my mother just emailed me (coincidentally) an article on this very topic. Apparently they are _trying_ to get the deal I mentioned with BLM, and do not have it yet. And they're actually in trouble for violating the permit last year by going slightly over the cap. Whoops.
