Hey people I know: Are you going to Burning Man? With whom?

My camp (Camp Cydonia) is trying to add somewhere between 2 and 6 (or so) people, either by recruiting them or by merging with another small camp, to ease our logistical pain. So I'm trying to figure out who I know is going, and who they're camping with.

If you even _might possibly_ be interested in joining us, _or_ if you know someone who might, I'd love to hear from you.

OR, if your camp is already set, but you might be interested in sharing _logistics_ -- transportation of people or gear from SF, shade structures, provision of food, etc. -- please also let me know, since that might help us out too.

Thanks yinz! <3

[livejournal.com profile] xuth is going but he is coming from Pittsburgh and has a camp so I don't know if that's any use to you.

Hm, probably not. But if he knows anybody who's still looking for one, he could send them our way. ;-)

(How's he getting to the playa, do you know?)

Next time skip the first week of class! ;-)

My intent is to fly from PIT to RNO. My camp is boston based and has storage in NV and makes heavy use of containers shipped from boston to the playa (and has hosted them on the playa in previous years).

I'm trying to figure out my logistics for getting _my_ stuff to the playa. When I lived in boston I used the boston containers. I'm hearing rumors that pgh isn't sending a truck this year which could make things interesting.

I "even might possibly" be interested in joining you guys. But I thought there was some sort of problem with ticket availability?

Oh -- probably what you mean is that you are looking for people who have already purchased tickets?
I would not qualify, then.

Right yes, sorry. At this point the ticket situation is grim, which is the reason we're so short of people in the first place. :-\

If you are interested for next year, though, we should chat once this year is over (in September or something). I suspect next year there will be a possibly-dramatic increase in the number of tickets sold, and probably a better method of distribution.

*nods*

Yeah, if you're not passing through SF, there's probably not a lot we can coordinate. It would be cool to see you on the playa, though. :-) (And I should look into containers travelling from SF.)

I was under the impression that they couldn't increase the number of tickets sold (for zoning/legal/safety reasons), but I admit I don't know the whole story or anything.

The Bureau of Land Management won't increase the cap until the Burning Man org can demonstrate that they have the appropriate facilities to handle the increased number of people. They have a deal currently under which the numbers increase from 50k to 70k over the period from 2011 to 2016 or so I believe. I suspect they're going to try to get it boosted faster after this year's sellout.

... actually, my mother just emailed me (coincidentally) an article on this very topic. Apparently they are _trying_ to get the deal I mentioned with BLM, and do not have it yet. And they're actually in trouble for violating the permit last year by going slightly over the cap. Whoops.

Did the ticket situation screw up the Pittsburgh truck entirely?
