Windows.Update--

Best. Windows. Update. Timing. EVAR.

So, we're sitting in the Mudge TV lounge watching Nightmare Before Christmas on Mike's laptop... and suddenly it STOPS.... and the computer reboots. And when it comes back -- Windows Update finishes installing the latest patch!

That gets bonus points for extra-special stupidity.

EDIT: I stand corrected: it wasn't Windows Update, it was Norton Antivirus. But still... gah.

There is a balance here since a Windows machine is, 9-times-out-of-10, still vulnerable if patched but not yet rebooted. Some of our people get pissed at having to reboot while they're in the middle of a run, but that's just the price you must pay to use Windows.

Oh gosh, the rebooting thing. The network people (they don't deserve a more glamorous title) here have all the school-provided laptops reboot at 4AM on weekends, which was quite a shocker the first time I woke up Saturday morning to find my beautiful weekend workflow wiped clean.

And whatever the case in this post, Windows does indeed forcedly reboot after so long. I think [livejournal.com profile] drquuxum summarized the unfortunate predicament well.

By the way, I enjoy your entries and am going to add you as a friend. Let me know if you mind.

No, I don't mind at all. I only post very sporadically, though, just to warn you. :-)
